Children’s Beauty Treatments (Under 18’s)

Children and Teenage skin, hair and nail conditions vary greatly from adults so it is not safe for some under 18 to have certain treatments due to the chemicals involved or risk of sensitivity. Home care is also a consideration.

In England a minor is anyone under the age of 18.

If a client is under 18, written permission is required from their parent or guardian for the treatment to go ahead and they should accompany the minor to the salon for the appointment and stay with them throughout the treatment. Treatments to a minor who is unaccompanied by a parent/guardian will not be carried out.

Appointments for under-16’s must be booked out of school hours.

Treatments will only be permitted when deemed suitable for the client and covered under salon insurance.

FAQ:

Q. Can my 15 year old daughter have Shellac Gel Polish?

A. No. It is not permitted to have gel chemicals applied to the nails of anyone under the age of 16. This is due to the structure of young nails, can be harmful and runs the risk of sensitivities developing.

Q. Can my 13 year old have her nails painted with a design?

A. Yes, using a nail polish that can be easily removed at home such as Vinylux or Orly. Sparkly polish  and self-adhesive stickers can also be used to create nail art.

Q. Can my child have lash and brow tinting?

A. Yes if he/she is age 16+. A patch test will be required prior to the appointment.

Q. When can my daughter get her legs waxed?

A. Hair removal by waxing can be carried out from age 16 if the client is willing and happy to have the treatment. Pain tolerance and skin reaction will be a consideration though.

Q. My 17 year old is suffering with spots and blackheads, what would you suggest he have?

A. Steam facials are very beneficial to draw out oil and clear blackheads. Sonic exfoliation is also good to have. Products for home use will also be recommended.
